Women can be heroic. Women can be horrific. We run the gamut, just like men.
Hosted by Lavetta Cannon and Miriam Lipner-Brienik, Notorious Women is a weekly comedy podcast about some of history's most notorious women!
We set out to round out women's lives, to make the experience of being a woman as interesting and as complicated as it is in reality. We are not historians, but we are interested in educating ourselves, others, and be funny doing it! We thrive on expanding what it means to be a woman, and on sharing the stories of remarkable women's lives.
To all womanists — yes, that's a term — and feminists out there, join us!
Notorious Women is produced by Lavetta Cannon and Miriam Lipner-Brienik, mastered by Shaun Hettinger and Greg Williams of Audivita Studios, and executive produced by Christian D. Bruun and May Eleven Projects.
Where were you born and raised?
Born and raised in Florida - don't hold it against me!
What was it like growing up (that led you to host Notorious Women)?
Being surrounded by racists, misogynists and alligators, I need to find a way to shine a light on problematic things while making people laugh so why not start a podcast?
Where do you live today?
Hollywood, baby!
What do you do professionally when not podcasting?
TV Writing / Production.
Why do you love the subject of notorious women?
Women have a lot of rage and it's interesting learning about the different ways in which they express that rage.
Who's with you?
Friends and Found Family.
What kinds of notorious women do you gravitate towards?
Oh, I LOVE a murderess!
Where were you born and raised?
Born in Los Angeles, raised in Orange County, CA.
What was it like growing up (that led you to host Notorious Women)?
Growing up behind the orange curtain, discovering the book Lies My Teacher Told Me in my early 20’s, and realizing that yelling “fix it!” into the ether wasn’t doing anyone any good. Let’s start a podcast!
Where do you live today?
Los Angeles.
What do you do professionally when not podcasting?
I teach Pilates.
Why do you love the subject of notorious women?
Because women can be ANYTHING! And, they have always been EVERYTHING! So let’s talk about it and honor it.
Who's with you?
Husband and two kiddos.
What kinds of notorious women do you gravitate towards?
Oh I totally gravitate toward the heroic, and I’m also a big fan of finding women as far back in history as I can. It’s inspiring for me, and hopefully others, to realize that women have always been powerful, have overcome, and have never, actually, in any way, been a weaker sex.
